Motorola is an American company that was founded in 1928 in Chicago. The brothers Joseph and Paul Galvin were the founders, and the newly formed company was named "Galvin Manufacturing Corporation". GMC has opened its first store in a rented building in downtown Chicago. After opening, the company was valued at $ 565, had five employees, and had a weekly salary of $ 63.
The first product of the new company was the "battery eliminator". This device was very similar in function to today's adapters, used in cars where it connected to a battery, converting AC (DC) voltage to DC (DC), which could then be used as a power source for devices that used batteries . This device was mainly used to power car radios, which was also GMC's next product.
Paul Galvin studied car services that installed then-complex radio systems. Because of this, he got the idea of a car radio whose installation in a car did not need to be complicated and as a consequence also had a cheaper installation price. The prototype of such a radio was introduced in 1930 and was called Motorola. The product was a huge success and was eventually renamed GMC by Motorola.
